Mikel Arteta has expressed confidence that his team can persist in handling with player absences following disclosing that star striker Kai Havertz remains out for a few more weeks.

Extended Absence for German Star

The German forward has been out since August after undergoing knee surgery. Hoped to be available sooner, Arteta revealed the player faced a hurdle when stepping up his recovery and failed to reach “to the next level.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a team that is considerably steadier and has greater depth,” stated the manager.

Selection Dilemma for Midweek Fixture

This news presents a dilemma for the midweek fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. A decision is required between sticking with Mikel Merino, who got a goal playing out of position last weekend, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return off the bench off the bench. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus remains available after 11 months out.

Fitness Doubts Persist

Further fitness issues involve defender William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Stamford Bridge game. As a result, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to continue in the backline for the table-toppers.

The manager is convinced the substantial investment on new players ahead of this season has resulted in a more robust situation to navigate such absences.

Greater Options Key to Title Challenge

Questioned if a larger pool of players was benefiting their league challenge, the manager agreed. “Indeed, since the current term has presented greater challenges in some areas, and now the problems with the defence,” he added.

“Our previous experiences taught us that we have to use players in alternative spots, and they must be capable to fulfil different roles if we aim to challenge at the top. And the example of Mikel Merino.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Frustrated Star

Speaking about the delay noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave more insight. “He followed all protocols. He was unable to progress to the required step and now it’s looking like we have solved that issue.”

Arteta expressed his keenness to have him back. “Everyone is eager to have him. Truly, Havertz is someone that, in my view, I love so much for his contributions to the team, but his personality, his attitude. I watch him struggle being outside.”
