Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group features Teor (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his own means, breaking into the secret base, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then settled his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the party reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Strategists tables.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which players will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
