Cameron Norrie achieved the biggest win of his career by coming back from a set down to defeat top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz with a stunning comeback in the second round of the Paris Masters.

Even though he had before overcome Alcaraz on two occasions, this win represents Norrie's maiden success over a reigning world number one.

"Enormous. Extremely important for me," commented Norrie, who is now the latest British man in history to beat a world No 1. "Coming back from a physical setback last year, I fell in the first round of qualies here. I just sought to enjoy my tennis in the closing months of the year. To secure a victory like this, it's the most significant victory of my tennis journey, my initial victory over the top player and likely the most confident player in the world right now."

The British player, seeded 31st in the world, also ended Alcaraz's impressive streak of nine straight final appearances and 17 consecutive premier event successes, which marked the finest stretch of outcomes in the Spanish star's young professional path.

The top seed appeared to be progressing easily towards victory in the beginning as he sailed past the opening set. Yet, the British contender steadily fought his way back into the game by executing with sharper placement and pulling the Spaniard into prolonged, physical points. His unceasing consistency and reliability steadily made an impact.

For much of the contest, the world number one performed well on serve but he found it challenging to find his timing on his baseline shots.
