World Series Final Game Draws 51M Audience Members Across the United States, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The nail-biting extended contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 drew a combined 51M spectators in the US, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB reported this marks the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic contest drew 27.33 million audience members on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It additionally is the top-rated World Series matchup since the 2017 Game 7 between the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a 16% improvement over the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game finished in 13th position.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game recorded 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English program in the country since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – drew over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series drew 15.71M viewers on Fox, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen audience increases for two straight years.

Counting the opening game telecast on Univision, the total US average reached over 16 million. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09M watchers, an 8% increase over last year and the network’s strongest playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in sixteen different tongues.
